Commentary: Personal Brand + Restoring Kindness Returns

Michelle Blevins

“You are not defined by the numbers that surround your life: age, address, income, output, kids, etc. You are defined by your actions, your deeds, your WORDS, and your contribution to society as a whole.” – Ally Love

On a recent drive, I listened to a podcast on leadership and personal brand. It all revolved around the question of how people experience you. Are you the leader who others experience as brash and arrogant? Are you someone who others experience as a pushover and weak? Or do they experience you as strong, stable, and committed?

Of course, those are only three scenarios of an infinite number of possibilities, but when was the last time you actually took notice of and assessed your personal brand, and asked those around you for feedback on how they experience you as a leader? Yes, you can do that! But don’t get defensive if you don’t like honest feedback.

Like it says in the Ally Love quote above (any fellow Peloton fans here??), you and your personal brand are defined by your actions, your deeds, your words, and your contributions overall. I don’t know about you, but I sure hope my words and contributions are full of light and value to our industry.

On that note, I wanted to point you toward the Restoring Kindness project! It’s back! Several companies have already submitted things they’ve done in their communities, and I look forward to sharing more in 2022! Never heard of Restoring Kindness?
