5 Questions with Charles Cassani

Charles Cassani, CR, has over 40 years of construction experience related to restoration, remediation, fire, water, vandalism and biological events. He currently serves as an analytical specialist at Restoration Management Company, where he has worked for over five years. He has been recognized as an expert witness in cleaning, restoration and remediation. Recently, he was a member of the Certified Restorer Redevelopment Committee on the recently published Certified Restorer Body of Knowledge (see p. 21 for details).

1. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST TREND SHAPING THE FUTURE OF RESTORATION TODAY?

Two things: employing digital technology to manage program work and capturing large, concentrated projects that create a synergy of services, energy and creativity that separates and motivates great organizations.

2. IN WHAT WAYS SHOULD PROFESSIONALS IN THIS SPACE BEST PREPARE FOR THIS TREND?

Understand and create social capital in your organization. Develop and insist on entry-level technician classroom and field training — it is the key to the future of any service organization.

3. WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT BEING IN THE RESTORATION INDUSTRY?

The unending challenges, learning and educational opportunities.

4. WHY DID YOU GET INTO THE RESTORATION INDUSTRY?

I studied psychology in college, but there was very little science involved at the time; cleaning carpets as a side job provided real science learning opportunities — I was, and I remain, hooked!

5. WHY ARE YOU INVOLVED IN ORGANIZATIONS LIKE RIA?
